They Expected a Gripe Session. They Got Greece.

Picture a theater packed with some of the most loyal cruisers anywhere. Diamond pins. Pinnacle stories. Questions they’ve been saving up all year. And one microphone.
That’s Common Ground, the open Q&A Michael Bayley holds on the President’s Cruise. The Royal Caribbean Blog says it has “no filter or pre-screening.” This morning, Day 2 of the first President’s Cruise on Icon of the Seas, the Royal Caribbean CEO took the stage again. One passenger’s TikTok has it starting around 10:35 AM ET.
Addy and Terry, sailing their first President’s Cruise, walked in braced for the worst. “I was expecting it to be a gripe session,” one of them said on their shipboard livestream later. “But it was a lot of people that were asking legitimate questions.”
(A note before we go on: the quotes from that stream come from an auto-transcript. Treat the wording as approximate.)
So what got asked, and what did Bayley say? Let’s sort it.
Yes, someone asked about Sandals
On September 22, Royal Caribbean Group announced it’s buying 50% of Sandals & Beaches Resorts for about $3 billion. The deal is expected to close in early 2027. Twelve days later, a theater full of loyalists wanted to know what that means for them.
Two independent passenger accounts, a clip from the session and Addy and Terry’s recap, agree on the gist. Bayley’s answer went roughly like this: every brand in the Royal Caribbean family keeps its own identity. There will be some synergy. It’s early days. And Sandals will most likely stay its own thing.
We don’t have a clean recording, so we’re not putting quote marks around Bayley’s words. Addy and Terry’s verdict: “He answered it as best he could and it made sense.”
Our read: don’t expect Icon to sprout a Sandals swim-up bar anytime soon. Nothing we’ve seen speaks to points or perks.
Next stop: Rome. Then the Greek Isles.
The traditional reveal came too. Passengers filmed the onstage slides (here’s one): “PRESIDENT’S CRUISE 2027.” “CELEBRATING 10 YEARS.” Then the ship: Odyssey of the Seas.
You can book it on Royal Caribbean’s own site right now. It’s a 7-night Greek Isles sailing from Rome (Civitavecchia), September 19–26, 2027, calling at Santorini (home of Royal Beach Club Santorini), Ephesus, Mykonos and Naples. One small asterisk: the booking page doesn’t use the President’s Cruise name yet, and the Crown & Anchor President’s Cruise page still shows Icon.
Ten years in, the party is heading to the Aegean. Not bad for a loyalty cruise.
What else came up (grain of salt, please)
The items below come from one onboard creator stream. They’re secondhand and auto-transcribed, so think of them as notes from a friend, not official minutes.
- Mexico. Someone asked “what happened in Mexico.” According to the hosts, Bayley explained that projects like this take years. Their version of his line: “have you ever heard of permits?”
- Homeports. The hosts’ takeaway was “no ships coming to Tampa.” People also asked about Philadelphia and about Cozumel as a homeport.
- Access. The hosts say Bayley told the room that executives would be on board all week, and guests should stop them and ask.
From a separate single clip: a Pinnacle guest named Shelley said she still can’t get into Coastal Kitchen and had heard her $25 credit was going away. The answer, as best the audio allows: the $25 credit isn’t going anywhere, capacity limits Coastal Kitchen, and a rotational access program is under discussion. Unconfirmed, but if you’re Pinnacle, keep an eye out.
What passengers are saying
The mood is warm, and a little wry. “This man listens to what people ask for,” one of the hosts said.
Loyalists also remember things. The hosts recalled leadership saying in earlier years that double points would “never happen again.” Then: “But we just had double points. And twice.” That’s their memory, not a Bayley quote. Loyalists don’t forget.
Other dispatches from the same stream:
- Swag: a Rover magnet on every cabin door and Panama-style straw fedoras in Royal colors.
- Day 1 giveaways: prizes ranged “from a drink package on your next cruise to VIP seating on this cruise… And then they gave away cruises.”
- The fine print: “No free drinks.”
- Kids: plenty of them on board, and the hosts say even Bayley remarked on “a lot of kids.”
The question nobody’s reported hearing
Before sail-away, Cruise Critic posters asked attendees to raise the cuts to comedy clubs and the shift to paid game shows. So far, no account we’ve found says anyone did.
Worth noting: this sailing’s official showtimes flyer lists Adult Comedy LIVE on most nights. Whether that’s the rule or a President’s Cruise exception is a fair question. Someone should ask it.
What we know, and what we don’t
We know:
- Common Ground happened Sunday morning on Icon.
- Two independent passenger accounts agree on the substance of the Sandals answer.
- The September 19, 2027 Odyssey sailing from Rome is live on Royal Caribbean’s site.
We don’t know yet:
- Bayley’s exact words. There’s no clean recording or official recap.
- Whether entertainment came up.
- What Sandals means for loyalty perks.
- Which Mexico project he meant.
- Whether rotational Coastal Kitchen access ever shows up.
It turns out “common ground” means a room full of people who love a cruise line enough to argue with it. Next year, they’ll argue in Greece.
