Carnival Luminosa and Carnival Adventure leave Australia in March 2028. Cruise Industry News says they finish the deployments already planned in Australia first. The newsroom post does not cancel a booking and does not print a refund. After the March dates, those two ships are out of the Australian program.

The Carnival newsroom post on 15 Oct 2026 calls it long-term global fleet planning. Cruise Industry News the same day, and Travel Weekly, Grant Jones, at 4:09 p.m., carry the same two dates.

Which sailing is the last one?

Luminosa has sailed seasonally from Brisbane since cruising restarted in 2022. The newsroom says the final voyage leaves Sydney on Wednesday 15 March 2028. Cruise Industry News calls 15 March the end of the final season from Sydney, and says further itineraries for Luminosa were not revealed. This post does not name a next region for Luminosa. Travel Weekly’s line that both ships were going to split time with North America is the earlier plan, described below.

Adventure leaves Sydney on Monday 20 March 2028. The newsroom says the ship will not return to Australia as originally planned. Cruise Industry News says Adventure repositions to North America after that Sydney cruise, and that it will not come back for the 2028-29 Australian winter. The 2,600-passenger figure is in that Cruise Industry News article.

Travel Weekly describes a February change. Carnival then said Adventure would move to North America for the northern summer from April 2028 and would still sail seasonally in Australia. The same article says Luminosa and Adventure were both supposed to split time between Australia and North America, while Splendor and Encounter stayed year-round. The Australia return is the piece this announcement drops.

Travel Weekly writes that the company cited more favourable market conditions elsewhere, and an uncertain regulatory environment in Australia and New Zealand. The newsroom post does not use those phrases. It says deployments set years ahead depend on long-term certainty and on operating conditions that can compete globally.

West Coast bookings opened on 1 Oct already place Adventure in Seattle for Alaska from May 2028. The 15 Oct reports do not say those Seattle dates are withdrawn. If you hold one, open the booking. If you wanted Adventure back in Australia after March 2028, treat that return as cancelled.

Which ships stay?

Carnival Splendor keeps sailing year-round from Sydney. Carnival Encounter keeps sailing year-round from Brisbane. The newsroom says the 2028/29 program for those two ships comes in the coming weeks. The release prints no fares.

What Peter Little said

Peter Little, country manager, is quoted in the newsroom post. Cruise Industry News identifies him as Australia country manager. The Federal Government extended the industry’s ability to sail between Australian ports until the end of 2028. A long-term licensing regime is still being written. Little calls the extension a welcome but interim step while that framework is developed over the next two years.

He says Carnival is the only line with ships dedicated year-round to Australia, so it has greater exposure to local market and operating conditions than a line with a seasonal or thinner presence. He says Carnival will keep working with the Federal Government on the future rules.

He tells guests to use the next 18 months. The release says both departing ships have taken guests to Vanuatu, New Caledonia, and Papua New Guinea. The later program he points to is on Splendor and Encounter.

What this means for you

If you are booked on Luminosa or Adventure from Australia before those March 2028 departures, Cruise Industry News says the ships still operate their scheduled Australian itineraries. The newsroom post does not print a refund. If you wanted either ship in Australia after March 2028, the ships that remain are Splendor from Sydney and Encounter from Brisbane, with 2028/29 dates still to come. If you booked Adventure’s Seattle season from the 1 Oct opening, this announcement does not take that season off the books. Luminosa’s next region is not in the release. Facts above follow Carnival’s 15 Oct 2026 newsroom post, Cruise Industry News the same day, and Travel Weekly the same day.
