Carnival requires full muster drills on six October sailings

Photo: Ajith Achuthann · Cruise Hive · https://www.cruisehive.com/carnival-tells-guests-on-six-ships-to-expect-full-muster-drills/219582
The short answerCarnival is requiring a full in-person safety drill, instead of e-muster, on six sailings that depart 8-12 Oct 2026: Spirit from Seattle, Luminosa from Tokyo, Legend from Civitavecchia, Radiance and Firenze from Long Beach, and Miracle from Galveston. Cruise Hive quotes the email. Spirit's boarding has since moved to Friday 9 Oct.

Six Carnival sailings that leave from 8 Oct through 12 Oct 2026 are set for a full in-person safety drill. Cruise Hive, dated 2 Oct 2026, quotes the email Carnival sent to people booked on those cruises. The usual e-muster stays in place on other sailings.

Cruise Mummy, dated 3 Oct 2026, prints the same six ships and the same dates.

This is the next batch after the five ships that ran full drills on 26-28 Sep. That post is Carnival brings back full muster drills on 5 ships this week.

The six sailings

Cruise Hive lists them this way. Cruise Mummy matches the ships, the dates, and the home ports.

Spirit now boards on 9 Oct

The Spirit row is the drill notice from 2 Oct. A later email, reported on 5 Oct, moves that boarding to Friday 9 Oct, cuts the cruise to 15 nights, and drops Cabo. That change is in Carnival Spirit boards a day late and drops Cabo.

Neither report says the full drill was cancelled or moved. Carnival has dropped a planned full drill when a departure slipped. Cruise Hive says Carnival Sunshine was set for a full briefing on the 27 Sep Norfolk departure. After a nor’easter pushed that sailing to 28 Sep, the full drill was cancelled and people used e-muster instead.

If you are on Spirit, plan the boarding day as Friday 9 Oct. Plan for the drill until Carnival says otherwise.

What you do on board

The email, as Cruise Hive prints it, says: “The safety of everyone on board is always our priority, and we are dedicated to maintaining responsible and secure operations. As part of this commitment to this key Carnival value, a safety briefing will be conducted ahead of every sailing.”

It then says: “Shortly before departure, a full safety drill will take place on your upcoming sailing. This is a mandatory procedure, and all guests will be required to participate in this brief but essential exercise.”

On these six cruises, announcements send you to your muster station. Crew scan Sail & Sign cards. They show you how to put on a life vest. Children get wristbands that name the station. You hear the emergency signal. That is seven short blasts, then one long blast.

Food and beverage service closes during the briefing. Bars, the buffet, and the restaurants pause.

E-muster remains the format on sailings that are not on this list. John Heald has said every Carnival ship does the in-person drill twice a year, under the U.S. Coast Guard, the Australian Coast Guard, other government agencies, and SOLAS. Cruise Hive dates that comment to October 2025.

Cruise Hive also says a full drill can be cancelled in an exceptional case, as on Sunshine. If that happens, you get new instructions on the ship.

Cruise Mummy adds minute counts for the full drill and for e-muster. Those clocks are not in Cruise Hive’s account of the email, so they are not repeated here.

What this means for you

If your ship is on the list, do not head for the buffet the moment you board. Be ready to stand at your station before departure. The email says the drill is mandatory.

If you need help taking part, contact Carnival before you sail. The advance email is there so you can plan. Cruise Hive does not print a phone number in the lines it quotes.

If you are on Carnival Spirit, use Friday 9 Oct as the boarding day from the later email. Still expect the drill unless a newer note drops it.

Check the other five dates against your confirmation. Carnival Luminosa is 9 Oct from Tokyo. Legend and Radiance are 11 Oct. Carnival Firenze and Miracle are 12 Oct.
