Carnival Sunshine delays Norfolk return and skips Bimini

Carnival Sunshine is a day late into Norfolk. Cruise Industry News, dated 27 Sep 2026, and Cruise Hive, dated 26 Sep 2026, both quote Carnival telling the next sailing that the ship slowed and altered course for the East Coast nor’easter. Homeport arrival moves from Sunday 27 Sep to Monday 28 Sep. The Bahamas cruise that was supposed to leave Sunday leaves Monday, drops Bimini, and keeps a later Nassau call. No Carnival newsroom release was located. Treat both reports as Tier 2 write-ups of the line’s guest statements.
If you are boarding in Norfolk for that Bahamas cruise, move your travel to Monday and cancel Bimini.
The Canada cruise is the one running long
Cruise Hive says this Sunshine voyage left Norfolk on Saturday 19 Sep 2026 on an eight-night Canada itinerary. Cruise Industry News names the ports as Halifax, Sydney, and Saint John. The published homecoming was Sunday 27 Sep 2026.
Carnival’s statement, as Cruise Industry News printed it, says the Fleet Operations Center is monitoring the nor’easter on the U.S. East Coast. The ship is already southbound after Canada. Speed came down. The course shifted toward calmer water so people onboard would stay clear of the worst of the storm.
Carnival’s result line: expect Norfolk on Monday 28 Sep 2026. Neither outlet published a dock clock for that Monday arrival. Wait for the app before you lock a flight off the ship.
Cruise Industry News calls Sunshine a 1996-built, 3,000-passenger ship. Cruise Hive says 3,002 guests. Your booking is the headcount that matters for a transfer.
What the next cruise loses
The follow-on voyage was a six-night trip to Celebration Key, Bimini, and Nassau, per Cruise Industry News. Carnival’s statement there calls the replacement “a five-day voyage with a modified itinerary to the Bahamas.”
Cruise Hive, quoting a later guest email, calls it a 5-night itinerary that still ends in Norfolk on Saturday 3 Oct. A Monday 28 Sep departure and a Saturday 3 Oct return is five nights onboard. Keep the dates in your own email if Carnival’s “five-day” wording and Cruise Hive’s “5-night” wording ever diverge on your reservation.
Port plan from the email Cruise Hive quotes:
- Bimini is off
- Nassau is Wednesday 30 Sep, 1:00pm to 9:00pm. The old window was 8:00am to 4:00pm the same day
- Celebration Key stays Thursday 1 Oct, 7:00am to 3:00pm
- Norfolk return stays Saturday 3 Oct
Cruise Industry News said Carnival would share more on the revised sailing on Saturday. Cruise Hive’s 26 Sep report is that Saturday detail. Read your Carnival message if a newer one arrived after that.
Refunds, and where they land
The money section is Cruise Hive only. Cruise Industry News did not reprint a compensation table. Until Carnival’s email in your account matches these lines, treat the dollars as single-outlet.
Carnival is refunding one day of cruise fare, pro-rated, back to the original form of payment.
Amenity packages get the same one-day pro-rate. Cruise Hive names beverage packages and Wi-Fi. Prepaid gratuities get a one-day pro-rate too. Those amenity and gratuity amounts post to the onboard account by the end of Tuesday 29 Sep.
Carnival shore excursions for Bimini are cancelled and refunded to the onboard account. Nassau tours booked through Carnival move to the later hours. If a tour cannot move, Carnival cancels it and refunds the onboard account.
Tours you bought outside Carnival are yours to unwind. Neither report listed a separate goodwill credit on top of the one-day pro-rate.
Boarding time and the drill
Your terminal arrival window stays the same clock time. Only the calendar day changes. Cruise Hive quotes Carnival: arrive during your original Terminal Arrival Appointment, and be onboard by 3:00pm. The ship sails shortly after embarkation ends.
The full in-person muster that had been flagged for the Sunday embarkation is off this delayed sailing. Cruise Hive says Monday uses self-muster. You still finish that check-in at your muster station before Sunshine can leave.
What you should do
If you are getting off the Canada cruise, rebuild Sunday airport and ride plans around a Monday 28 Sep Norfolk arrival, and wait for a dock time before you buy a tight connection.
If you are getting on for the Bahamas, shift hotels and flights to Monday, keep your original appointment hour, and clear the gangway by 3:00pm. Drop Bimini. Recheck any Carnival Nassau tour against 1:00pm to 9:00pm. Watch the app. Carnival already said the forecast can force more edits.
Cruise Industry News also named Carnival Venezia, Norwegian Escape, and Vision of the Seas as earlier nor’easter changes. Vision’s Bahamas swap is a separate post. The same CIN piece noted West Coast Mexico calls cancelled for Hurricane Polo. Carnival Panorama’s Long Beach sailing is one of those cuts, with its own port list.
