Carnival Splendor will not call Napier on Friday 16 Oct 2026. The day is Tauranga instead. Auckland becomes an overnight.

Cruise Hive, Calvin Musquez, 14 Oct 2026, reports the notice Captain Mario Imbimbo sent on Tuesday 13 Oct, the second day of the cruise. No Carnival newsroom post for this sailing was found. No PDF of the notice was found. The clocks below are that report of the notice.

What moved?

This is a 10-night New Zealand cruise. It left Sydney on Monday 12 Oct 2026. It returns on Thursday 22 Oct. Cruise Hive says the original calls were Napier, Tauranga, Auckland, and the Bay of Islands. The article’s passenger figure for the ship is 3,012.

CallOriginal plan, as Cruise Hive prints itNow
NapierFriday 16 Oct, 8 hours. Clock times are not printed.Cancelled
TaurangaSaturday 17 Oct, 11 hours. Clock times are not printed.Friday 16 Oct, 7:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. (11.5 hours)
Auckland10 hours and 15 minutes, departing 6:30 p.m. on Sunday 18 Oct. The original arrival time is not printed.Arrive Saturday 17 Oct at 8:00 a.m. Depart Sunday 18 Oct at 6:30 p.m. (34.5 hours)
Bay of IslandsMonday 19 Oct, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.Unchanged
SydneyThursday 22 OctUnchanged

Cruise Hive says the new Tauranga call is 3.5 hours longer than the cancelled Napier call and half an hour longer than the original Tauranga call. It says the Auckland stay has more than tripled. The 34.5 hours run from 8:00 a.m. on 17 Oct to 6:30 p.m. on 18 Oct. The article does not print the old Auckland arrival clock. The 10-hour-15-minute line is a duration, not an arrival time.

What the captain wrote

Cruise Hive quotes the notice:

A weather system that is forecast to bring unfavourable conditions is expected to impact the Napier area over the next few days.

With your safety and comfort in mind, we have made the decision to cancel our visit to Napier.

The quoted notice does not name the wind or the swell. Cruise Hive says Captain Imbimbo and Carnival’s Fleet Operations Center decided the forecast was too much risk. That sentence is the article’s account. It is not inside the quotation marks.

The same article quotes the apology:

I know you may be disappointed to miss our visit to Napier, and I am sorry the weather has disrupted our plans.

While these changes are never ideal, your safety must always come first.

Where the swell figure comes from

Cruise Hive reads a MetService forecast for the Napier area on 16 Oct as swells rising to 4 meters, with gusts up to 46 mph. The article spells the region “Hawkes bay.” That reading is Cruise Hive’s. It is not a number in the captain’s notice. Docking limits depend on the port, and the article says the call is the captain’s decision.

What about the tours?

Napier excursions booked through Carnival refund to the Sail & Sign account. Cruise Hive says tours for the original Tauranga and Auckland calls were adjusted to the new dates. Open the app and read the meeting time before you leave the ship. A Monday plan for Tauranga is now a Friday plan.

The reported refund is the excursion Carnival sold. A tour you bought from another company is outside that sentence. Call that operator about Napier.

The article does not print a cruise-fare refund or a flat onboard credit for the missed port. Budget the tour refund unless a newer Carnival note adds more.

What the other reports add

DeepArrival, Rolando Herrera, 15 Oct 2026, follows Cruise Hive for the clocks and the Sail & Sign refund. It says a check of Napier Port’s schedule that day showed no Splendor call on 16 Oct. The next call it saw was Celebrity Solstice on Friday 23 Oct. The port page, as that article describes it, does not say why the slot is empty. It also says the same schedule lists Splendor again on 7 Jan 2027, so the skip it is describing is this visit. This post did not reload the port page.

NZ Herald, Gary Hamilton-Irvine in Hawke’s Bay Today, 15 Oct 2026 at 5:00 p.m., says the first cruise visit of Napier’s season was cancelled because of poor weather. It says Splendor was due with up to 3,000 passengers. The text retrieved on 16 Oct does not name the captain, and it does not print Tauranga, Auckland, or the Bay of Islands. It says the ship was scheduled to arrive “today” on a story timestamped 15 Oct. Cruise Hive puts the cancelled call on 16 Oct. This post follows Cruise Hive for the date. The Herald photo is Splendor in Napier in 2024, credited to Warren Buckland. It is not a picture of this week.

The 3,012 figure is Cruise Hive’s. The “up to 3,000” figure is the Herald’s. They are separate counts.

What this means for you

If you are on the 12 Oct Splendor cruise, Friday 16 Oct is Tauranga, 7:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., if your app matches the notice. Auckland is 8:00 a.m. Saturday 17 Oct through 6:30 p.m. Sunday 18 Oct. Bay of Islands stays Monday 19 Oct, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sydney stays Thursday 22 Oct. Watch Sail & Sign for the Carnival Napier tours. Confirm that a Tauranga or Auckland tour moved with the new day. Call a private Napier operator yourself. Leave a fare refund out of the budget unless Carnival adds one. Facts above follow Cruise Hive on 14 Oct 2026, and DeepArrival and NZ Herald on 15 Oct.
