Viking opened a 19-day Egypt trip called the Grand Nile Journey. The company release, Los Angeles, 26 Oct 2026 at 4:15 p.m. EDT, says bookings are open and the departures start in 2028. Cruise Industry News on 27 Oct follows that release. Seatrade Cruise News, Anne Kalosh, 27 Oct, reports the same trip and adds one line the release does not: a 2017 refurbishment.

The photo on this page is the lead image on the Cruise Industry News story. The file name is Viking-Ra.jpg. The article does not name a photographer. The Viking release captions its own photo as Viking Ra on the Cairo-Aswan sailing. That file did not load for this post, so this page uses the Cruise Industry News image. This post does not treat the frame as proof of the name on the bow.

The trip

You are booking hotels and a river ship together. The release does not print a first departure date.

Leah Talactac, president and chief executive officer, says the trip is for more time in Egypt. Cruise Industry News prints that quote. Seatrade does not.

The release’s site list is the one to pack against. Cairo is the Great Pyramids of Giza, the Great Sphinx, and the Grand Egyptian Museum. On the river it names the Meidum Pyramid, Beni Hasan, Tell el-Amarna, Deir el-Muharraq, Luxor, Karnak, the Valley of the Kings, Abydos, Philae, Abu Simbel, and a felucca. The release ties Deir el-Muharraq to the Holy Family tradition. Cruise Industry News stops at Coptic heritage for that stop. Seatrade includes the holy-family line.

None of the three prints which days are the hotels and which days are the ship, beyond the four nights and the 14 nights.

The sale that is actually open

The 2028 cruise is open. The cheap deposit is not open for long.

The release says US residents, from the 26 Oct announcement through 31 Oct 2026, can get reduced airfare, special fares, and a $25 deposit. That is the Fall Sale. Cruise Industry News prints the same three items and the same end date. Seatrade does not mention the sale.

The release does not print the cruise fare. It does not print how much the airfare is reduced. It does not say whether the $25 is per person or per booking. It does not say whether the deposit is refundable. The number to call, in the release, is 1-800-284-5464. You can also use a travel advisor. The release says the offer is for US residents. It does not print a rule for a booking made outside the United States.

What you can add, and what Viking says about the rest of the fleet

The release offers three extensions. None of the articles prices them.

The release says this 19-day trip sits next to a 12-day Pharaohs and Pyramids itinerary and a sold-out 12-day Total Eclipse on the Nile voyage in 2027. It also says Viking named Viking Ptah and Viking Sekhmet earlier this month, operates 10 vessels in Egypt, and expects two more in 2028. Cruise Industry News repeats that paragraph. Seatrade prints the fleet of 10 and the two ships due in 2028. It does not name Ptah, Sekhmet, or the eclipse cruise.

What this means if you want this sailing

You can book the 2028 trip now. The release does not tell you the fare. If you want the $25 deposit, the reduced airfare, and the special fares, the release limits that package to US residents and ends it on 31 Oct 2026.

Book the ship as 52 guests in 26 suites. That count is in the release and in Cruise Industry News. Seatrade’s 2017 refurbishment is not in those two. If a listing you are reading says the ship was rebuilt in 2017, that line is Seatrade’s, not Viking’s 26 Oct release.

The direction of the 14 nights is between Cairo and Aswan in the release and in Seatrade. Cruise Industry News prints Cairo to Aswan. If your quote shows the reverse, ask before you count on a southbound trip.
