Good news if you hate waiting. Norwegian Cruise Line says it expects Norwegian Aura’s delivery ahead of plan. On 9 Oct 2026 it used that head start to open two new inaugural sailings in the Mediterranean. Cruise Industry News and Seatrade Cruise News reported the same two dates that day.
What are the new first sailings?
| Departs | Length | Route | Ports |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 May 2027 | 10 days | Trieste to Athens (Piraeus) | Dubrovnik, Split, Bar, Corfu, Santorini, Mykonos |
| 12 May 2027 | 9 days | Athens (Piraeus) to Trieste | Rhodes, Mykonos, Santorini, Corfu, Bar, Split, Zadar |
Cruise Industry News says the maiden voyage had been 21 May 2027. NCL’s release keeps 21 May as a seven-day Trieste to Barcelona (Tarragona) sailing, with Valletta, Salerno, and Rome (Civitavecchia).
NCL does not print a delivery date. It says “anticipated early delivery.” That is a plan, and a shipyard plan can still move.
Then where does Aura go?
After Barcelona, a 13-day transatlantic takes the ship to Miami.
From June through October 2027, Aura sails seven-day Eastern Caribbean cruises from Miami. The ports are Puerto Plata, St. Thomas, Tortola, and Great Stirrup Cay. In winter 2027/28 it switches to seven-day Western Caribbean cruises to Roatan, Costa Maya, Cozumel, and Harvest Caye.
How big is it?
NCL says nearly 1,130 feet long and about 170,000 gross tons. That is 10 percent larger than Norwegian Aqua and Norwegian Luna. The new outdoor complex, Ocean Heights, runs across decks 18 to 21, with dueling mat-racer slides and an 82-foot ropes course. Tamara is NCL’s first specialty Indian restaurant.
What this means for you
If you want to be first on NCL’s biggest ship, the 2 May sailing is now the date to price. If you already hold 21 May, you are on the third sailing, not the first. Read the terms on any early-season booking, because a delivery date that moved forward can also slip back.
