MSC cancelled the Sunday 1 Nov 2026 sailing on MSC Poesia. CBS News, Cristian Benavides, updated that report at 5:33 p.m. EST on Tuesday 3 Nov. MSC confirmed the cancellation to CBS the same day.
The fare comes back. Cruise Radio, Doug Parker, also prints an MSC statement with the same refund. A future cruise credit equal to the fare is in Cruise.blog’s account of a letter. CBS does not print the credit.

What MSC told CBS
MSC’s statement says the line made “the difficult decision to cancel the current sailing.” It apologizes for the disruption.
The reason in that statement is a “regulatory matter” that arose before departure. MSC says it could not resolve the issue in time to sail.
CBS says you get a full refund of the cruise fare. CBS says MSC is helping you get home.
A source familiar with the matter told CBS that more than 2,000 people were on board. CBS does not name the source. Do not treat that line as a manifest.
CBS still prints MSC’s capacity line. More than 3,200 passengers and over 1,000 crew. That is the size of the ship. It is not a headcount for Sunday.
What the Coast Guard told CBS
Capt. Frank Florio, commander of the Miami sector, spoke to CBS on Tuesday.
He said the Coast Guard “identified deficiencies with systems on board the vessel that we are addressing with MSC.” The ship “will remain detained until the deficiencies are corrected and it is cleared for departure.”
The statement does not name the system. The Monday statement on the same page still says teams are checking international standards and U.S. regulations. Miami sector detained the ship on Sunday.
What Cruise Radio adds
Doug Parker’s 3 Nov story says a passenger on board confirmed the cancellation at about 10 a.m. on Tuesday. That clock is this page’s. CBS does not print it.
The same passenger account says you can stay aboard until noon on Thursday 5 Nov, and that the refund covers the fare. Cruise.blog prints the same noon deadline.
Cruise Radio’s MSC statement matches the CBS lines. Difficult decision. Regulatory matter. Full refund of the cruise fare. Help getting home. That statement does not print a credit, a Wi-Fi rule, or a hotel rule.
The article calls the trip an 11-night Caribbean cruise that was due out of Miami on Sunday evening, with calls in Jamaica, Colombia, Panama, Costa Rica, Honduras, and Belize. CBS does not print 11 nights or the countries. Treat the country list as Cruise Radio’s.
The cabin letter, from Cruise.blog
Cruise.blog, dated 3 Nov 2026, prints a letter and names Captain Michele Tuvo. Those lines rest on this page. CBS does not print them. This desk did not open the letter photo. The credit on that photo is Nadyrah Amin-Fenner.
The captain’s lines say the team could not resolve “the regulatory matter that delayed our departure,” so the cruise is cancelled. He says Wi-Fi is free so you can change travel.
The letter, as the article prints it, says the matter arose on Sunday evening, before departure, and that the resources to fix it were not ready in time. It says the health and safety of guests and crew were never compromised.
On money, the article’s account of the letter has three parts.
- The cruise fare, plus eligible prepaid purchases, comes back. The examples are drink packages, Wi-Fi plans, dining packages, and shore excursions booked through MSC.
- A future cruise credit equal to 100% of the fare. Any MSC sailing. You redeem it by confirming a booking by 2 Nov 2027.
- Change fees and extra transportation to get home. A hotel, if you cannot get reasonable travel home the day you leave the ship. The quote says MSC will provide or reimburse an eligible hotel until the earliest reasonable chance to go home.
The fare refund is also in MSC’s statement to CBS and to Cruise Radio. The credit, the free Wi-Fi, and the hotel line are in Cruise.blog’s account of the letter. The printed quote shows no dollar cap.
Cruise.blog calls the trip an 11-night cruise to the Western Caribbean and Central America. It points a port list at CruiseMapper. This desk did not open that page. Use Cruise Radio’s country list above. Treat the CruiseMapper names as Cruise.blog’s citation.
What to do if you are on this sailing
Read the letter in the cabin, and the message in the MSC app, before you buy a new flight.
The fare refund is in MSC’s statements to CBS and to Cruise Radio. The credit, the free Wi-Fi, and the hotel line are in Cruise.blog’s account of the letter. If your replacement trip is a different class or a different city, use the letter in your name. The quote on this page covers eligible change fees and extra transportation home. It does not print a dollar cap.
