You lose MSC Opera’s Grand Voyage. The fare comes back. A future cruise credit is not in the statement these pages print.
Schiffe und Kreuzfahrten, byline Christopher, dated 4 Nov 2026, prints a statement it calls the official statement of MSC Cruises Deutschland from that day. Hamburger Abendblatt added an Opera update on 5 Nov and cites that site. This desk translated both from German. No MSC newsroom page for the statement turned up.
The photo is on the Schiffe und Kreuzfahrten page. The line under it reads MSC Opera, Bild: MSC Cruises. The file path is in a 2025/05 folder. The page does not date the frame, so this note does not treat it as a picture from this week. Abendblatt’s Opera picture is labeled a symbol photo. It is not used here.
What the statement says
Use the quoted statement, not the article around it, for the promise.
Technical problems require more work and extensive inspections. That is why the Grand Voyage was cancelled. The statement says the decision was not taken lightly, and that the safety of the ship is assured at all times. It does not name the system.
Every affected guest has been told directly. The refund is the cruise fare, plus the costs connected with it. The statement prints no cap, no future cruise credit, and no date by which the money arrives. Questions go to the MSC Contact Centre or the agency that booked you.
Arrival in La Romana is planned for 16 November. The statement does not print a year, a clock, or a port list.
What the articles add
Schiffe und Kreuzfahrten says every segment of the Grand Voyages is cancelled, and that guest service resumes on 16 Nov 2026 in La Romana. Abendblatt’s 5 Nov update says the entire Mediterranean-to-Caribbean crossing is cancelled, and that regular operations in La Romana are due on 16 Nov. Both of those year-and-service lines sit outside the quotation marks.
The same article says the ship is at anchor off Malta, after a planned stay at Palumbo Shipyard. It says guest service was supposed to restart on 29 Oct in Civitavecchia, that test trips off Malta ended with a return to a yard pier, and that a 31 Oct start in Livorno did not happen. It then says the ship is supposed to cross to the Dominican Republic with no guests. Abendblatt’s 5 Nov update also reports a passenger-free transfer, and it attributes the report to this site.
Those empty-crossing words are not in the statement. Treat them as the articles’ account.
The embarkations that already failed
Abendblatt’s 5 Nov update says the ship was supposed to take guests on 29 Oct in Civitavecchia, and that later embarkations in Genoa and Livorno were not kept. It points to a 2 Nov update on the same page.
That earlier update says guest service had stopped as planned on 10 Oct for routine work at Palumbo, that travelers were told on the evening of 28 Oct, and that Genoa on 30 Oct was dropped along with Civitavecchia. It says the ship left Valletta on 29 Oct for test trips, returned the next day near the yard, and then lost the 31 Oct start in Livorno.
The 4 Nov statement does not retell those dates. If your ticket names one of those cities, the later statement is the cancellation of the voyage, not a new pier.
If you are on this booking
Call the MSC Contact Centre, or the agency on the booking. Those are the paths the statement names.
The public statement does not list the Caribbean calls, and it does not tell you whether 16 Nov is a boarding day for a new cruise or only an arrival. Schiffe und Kreuzfahrten says guest service resumes in La Romana that day, in 2026. Ask MSC before you book a flight to that pier. The refund in the statement is the fare and the connected costs. It is not a credit toward another cruise unless your own letter says so.
