Brilliant Lady's 3 Oct sailing still lists Mexico while Virgin watches Hurricane Rachel

Virgin has not changed Brilliant Lady’s 3 Oct 2026 sailing from Los Angeles. Cruise Hive, dated 30 Sep 2026, quotes a notice Virgin posted on its website on Tuesday 29 Sep. Cruise Fever, also dated 30 Sep 2026, reports the same hold. Mexico is still the plan. A backup route exists. Virgin has not named it.
You still sail Saturday 3 Oct if this is your booking. You still return to Los Angeles on Saturday 10 Oct. That return date is in Cruise Hive’s account of the notice.
The ports still on the schedule
Cruise Hive prints the calls Virgin was still selling when it wrote the notice:
- Cabo San Lucas, Monday 5 Oct, 1pm to 8pm
- Mazatlán, Tuesday 6 Oct, 9am to 6pm
- Puerto Vallarta, Wednesday 7 Oct, 8:30am to 5pm
Cruise Fever names the same three ports and does not print the hours. Use Cruise Hive for the clocks. Keep any tour that matches those hours until Virgin sends a new day list.
What Virgin has and has not decided
The Tuesday notice says the planned track would bring the ship near Baja California around Sunday night into Monday morning, on the way to Cabo San Lucas. Virgin called that close enough to plan ahead. Virgin said it was too early to say which way the storm goes.
Cruise Hive quotes Virgin saying it has prepared an alternative itinerary in case it needs to reroute. The destinations are not in the notice. Cruise Fever says the same: a backup plan exists, and no final change has been announced.
Pack a few extra layers and a light jacket. Both outlets report that line from Virgin. Cruise Hive quotes the notice. The reason is a possible shift to cooler destinations. Virgin did not name the cities.
Cruise Hive then lists ports it thinks could fit, including Astoria, Seattle, Vancouver, Victoria, San Francisco, Ensenada, and Catalina Island. That list is Cruise Hive’s. It is not in the Virgin notice. Do not book a hotel in any of those cities from this page.
This is the next sailing
The 26 Sep Los Angeles sailing is a different cruise. Cruise Fever says that week already dropped Cabo, Mazatlán, and Puerto Vallarta for Hurricane Polo and replaced them with San Francisco, San Diego, Catalina Island, and Ensenada. That reroute is a separate post. Do not copy those California ports onto the 3 Oct booking.
Where the storm stood
The two cruise write-ups do not use the same position.
Cruise Hive, citing an 8am ET National Hurricane Center update, places Rachel 380 miles south-southeast of Cabo San Lucas, with winds of 85 mph, moving northwest at 10 mph. In that box, hurricane-force winds extend 25 miles and tropical-storm-force winds extend 160 miles.
Cruise Fever calls Rachel a Category 1 storm with winds around 85 mph, about 350 miles southeast of Cabo San Lucas.
National Hurricane Center Advisory 15 is later. It was issued at 2:00pm MST on 30 Sep 2026, which is 5:00pm ET. The center was near 18.8N 108.0W, about 310 miles south-southeast of Cabo San Lucas and about 185 miles southwest of Cabo Corrientes. Winds were 85 mph. Movement was northwest at 8 mph. Pressure was 978 mb. Hurricane-force winds extended 35 miles. Tropical-storm-force winds extended 150 miles.
The advisory says the center should move away from mainland Mexico and pass south of the Baja California Peninsula through Thursday. It says Rachel could become a major hurricane within a day or so. No coastal watches or warnings were in effect. Interests in southern Baja California Sur should monitor it. The bulletin does not name Brilliant Lady.
Your ship leaves Saturday. Cabo is Monday. The Tuesday Virgin note was about Sunday night and Monday morning near Baja. The 5pm ET advisory’s “through Thursday” line is a different clock. Virgin had not published a new port list in these reports.
What you should do
If you sail 3 Oct, keep Cabo, Mazatlán, and Puerto Vallarta on your plan until the app or a new Virgin note replaces them. Pack the jacket. Leave independent tours in place until a port comes off your day list, then call that operator yourself. These reports do not mention a Shore Things refund, a fare refund, or onboard credit, because no port has been cut yet.
Recheck the sailing on Friday. A backup itinerary can post with little notice, as it did for the 26 Sep week. Facts above follow Cruise Hive and Cruise Fever on 30 Sep 2026, and National Hurricane Center Advisory 15 at 5:00pm ET the same day.
