Brilliant Lady trades its whole Mexican Riviera week for California

The short answerBrilliant Lady's seven-night sailing from Los Angeles on 10 Oct 2026 skips all three Mexican Riviera ports. Virgin's 9 Oct notice blames Hurricane Rachel and Tropical Storm Simon. Santa Barbara on 12 Oct, San Diego on 13 Oct and Ensenada on 14 Oct replace Cabo, Mazatlán and Puerto Vallarta. Shore Things for the dropped ports refund automatically.

Three ports were on the brochure. Zero are on the week.

Brilliant Lady left Los Angeles on Saturday 10 Oct 2026 on a seven-night Mexican Riviera cruise. It will not reach the Mexican Riviera. Virgin’s notice, updated 9 Oct, says Hurricane Rachel and Tropical Storm Simon pushed the ship onto a West Coast route.

Cruise Industry News carried the same statement on 9 Oct.

What changed

DayWasNow
Mon 12 OctCabo San Lucas, 1pm to 8pmSanta Barbara, 8am to 6pm
Tue 13 OctMazatlán, 9am to 6pmSan Diego, 9am to 7pm
Wed 14 OctPuerto Vallarta, 8:30am to 5pmEnsenada, 8am to 5pm

Sunday 11 Oct, Thursday 15 Oct, and Friday 16 Oct stay sea days. The ship still returns to Los Angeles on Saturday 17 Oct, 6:30am.

Virgin says ports were limited at short notice. It also says, in its words, “we recognize it’s a significant change.” Fair.

What about refunds and credit?

Virgin refunds Shore Things booked for Cabo, Mazatlán, or Puerto Vallarta in full, to your original payment, with no action needed. If you booked a tour on your own, call that operator. New Shore Things for the California stops are coming to the app.

Virgin’s notice says nothing about compensation. Cruise Hive does. It reports $100 per person in non-refundable Sailor Loot plus a $200 Future Voyage Credit per person. RockStar and MegaRockStar guests get $200 in Sailor Loot and a $300 Future Voyage Credit per person. That is one outlet’s report. Check your folio and your email for the real number.

This is the third storm week in a row

Cruise Hive counts this as the third straight Brilliant Lady sailing hit by storms. The 26 Sep sailing lost Mexico to Hurricane Polo. The 3 Oct sailing swapped Cabo for Ensenada.

Cruise Hive said the 17 Oct Mexican Riviera sailing had no public change as of 9 Oct.

What this means for you

If you are on board, pack a jacket. Virgin warns the California coast will be cooler than Mexico, mostly mornings, evenings, and at sea. If you sail on 17 Oct, open Virgin’s advisory page each day before you go, and hold off on non-refundable Mexico tours until the ship is on its way.
