Hero of the Seas will stage The SpongeBob Musical in the Royal Theater. Royal Caribbean’s CNW release, timed 10:07 ET on 2 Oct 2026, calls it the first at-sea production inspired by the Broadway show. Hero is the fourth Icon Class ship. It sails from Miami in August 2027. The release calls the musical the headlining theater production.
What the show is
The release says the ship version is reimagined, and that you can see this production only on Royal Caribbean. The opening calls the Broadway show Tony award-winning. A later paragraph calls that same show 12-time Tony Award-nominated. Both phrases are in this release.
SpongeBob and his Bikini Bottom friends race to save their town from total destruction. The About section says they save their undersea world from volcanic destruction. The book credit is Kyle Jarrow. Tina Landau conceived the production. The series credit is Stephen Hillenburg.
Christi Coachman, vice president of entertainment, says the Hero lineup has something for everyone. She says the musical brings generations together through a story families know and love.
The release does not print a runtime. It does not print a ticket price. It does not say whether you need a reservation, or whether the show sits inside your fare.
When you sail it
You see the show on Hero, from Miami, in August 2027. The release does not print a maiden calendar date inside that month.
The cruises are 7-night Eastern and Western Caribbean sailings. Every one visits Perfect Day CocoCay in The Bahamas. Western examples in the release are Cozumel, Mexico, and Roatan, Honduras. Eastern examples are Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, and Philipsburg, St. Maarten.
The same release restates other Hero features. Crown’s Edge is a skywalk and zip line, 154 feet above the ocean. Category 6 is called the largest waterpark at sea. Nine pools include the new Coconut Cove pool and the adults-only Hideaway, with two pools and the largest swim-up bar at sea. Dining is 28 venues, including the Orleans Parrish Supper Club, spelled that way in the release, and Royal Railway - Hero Station. Cooking classes are in a venue the release says will be named later. The Ultimate Family Treehouse is three decks, with a rooftop terrace, a whirlpool, and a two-deck teen space.
What you should do
If you are booked on Hero from Miami in August 2027, the Royal Theater headline is The SpongeBob Musical. Open the sailing before you treat one August date as the debut. The release does not tell you the price of a seat, or whether a seat is included. Facts above follow the Royal Caribbean CNW release at 10:07 ET on 2 Oct 2026.
