The short answerOn 26 Oct 2026, Explora Journeys floated Explora V and placed coins in Explora VI at Fincantieri's Sestri Ponente yard in Genoa. Explora's release and Seatrade Cruise News both say Explora IV enters service in spring 2027, Explora V toward the end of 2027, and Explora VI in summer 2028. That completes a six-ship fleet. The same release's About section says Explora IV follows in early 2027.

Explora V is in the water. Explora VI has its coins. Explora Journeys dated the double ceremony to 26 Oct 2026 at Fincantieri’s Sestri Ponente yard in Genoa. Fincantieri published the same day. Seatrade Cruise News, Holly Payne, reported it the same day.

Explora Journeys is the luxury brand of MSC Group. These two ships are the fifth and the sixth. The main paragraph of Explora’s release, and Seatrade, put Explora IV in service in spring 2027, Explora V toward the end of 2027, and Explora VI in summer 2028.

The photo on this page is the ceremony photo on the Seatrade story, credited to Ivan Sarfati. The caption lists Marina Minetti, Ronco Camilla, Pierroberto Folgiero, Pierfrancesco Vago, and Anna Nash. The body of that article, and Explora’s release, print the name as Camilla Ronco. The frame is the group on a stage in front of a ship.

Who did what

Anna Nash, president of Explora Journeys, and Camilla Ronco placed the coins in Explora VI. Consuelo Brunelli cut the ribbon for the Explora V float-out. Marina Minetti presented.

Explora’s release and Seatrade call Ronco the PRS workshop manager at Sestri Ponente. They call Brunelli a production planner. Fincantieri calls Ronco an employee in the hull pre-assembly workshop, and Brunelli an employee in the planning department. The names match. The job titles differ. This post keeps both wordings.

Nash is quoted in the Explora release and in Seatrade. Explora VI may mark the completion of the first six ships, but it is by no means the final chapter.

Fincantieri also names Massimo Canesin, director of the Sestri Ponente yard, among the hosts. The Explora PDF does not print that name. Fincantieri quotes Vago on six ships in less than two years, built in Italy, and on 19 Italian destinations the brand already calls. That destination count is Fincantieri’s quote. Seatrade does not print it.

When the ships arrive

Use spring 2027 for Explora IV when you are reading the ceremony announcement. The About section of the same PDF says early 2027. Treat those as two wordings in one release. None of the three sources prints a maiden date, a homeport, or a fare.

Fuel and shore power

Explora’s release and Seatrade say Explora V and Explora VI are LNG ships, designed to use bio-LNG, synthetic LNG, and biofuels. Explora VI gets fuel cells. Explora V is designed so that technology can be added later. Fincantieri says the same, and it says they follow the two ships before them.

Shore power is in the Explora release and in the Fincantieri release. The ships can connect to shore electricity and switch off engines while connected. Seatrade does not print that line.

Fincantieri also prints an MSC investment of more than €3.5 billion for the six ships, and an Italian economic impact of more than €15 billion. The Explora PDF and the Seatrade article do not print those totals. This post does not use them as the figure to plan on.

What this means if you are booking

These three sources print no fare. If you want the next new Explora ship, Explora IV is the one entering service first. The ceremony announcement says spring 2027. The About section of the same release says early 2027. Explora V was floated on 26 Oct and is aimed at the end of 2027. Explora VI, the sixth ship, is aimed at summer 2028. Check Explora for the first dates before you treat a year as a booking window.
