6 Royal Caribbean Predictions for 2027
6 Royal Caribbean Predictions for 2027
None of the six calls below is a Royal Caribbean confirmation. Each one is a 2027 forecast built from what the line has already announced, built, or told investors. Watch the video for the confidence grade on every call.
1. Gratuities
Royal Caribbean has not announced a 2027 tip increase. Its own FAQ still lists $18.50 per guest per day in standard cabins and $21 in suites. Those rates took effect Nov. 1, 2024, per a company note to travel advisors covered by Cruise Industry News.
The competitive pressure is real. Cruise Hive’s April 27, 2026 roundup put Carnival at $17 / $19 from April 2, Princess at $18 / $19 / $20 from early March, and Holland America at $18 / $20 from June 1. Celebrity, inside the same parent group, raised rates effective July 29, 2026. Cruise Industry News reported the new Celebrity scale at $19.50 for inside, oceanview, and veranda, $20.50 for Concierge and AquaClass, and $24.50 for The Retreat.
If Royal Caribbean moves next, your prepaid booking is the lever. Prepay before a hike lands if the line offers that window. Otherwise the new daily rate hits the SeaPass account.
2. Hero of the Seas cooking venue
Hero of the Seas is the fourth Icon Class ship. Royal Caribbean’s March 30, 2026 release sets the Miami debut for August 2027. The same release says Surfside will host hands-on cooking classes for all ages in a new venue “to be revealed.”
Chopping and baking classes are confirmed. The venue name is not. Book Hero for the ship and itinerary you want. Do not book it for a named cooking theater that does not exist in writing yet.
3. Discovery Class
Royal Caribbean Group ordered Discovery Class on Jan. 29, 2026. Two firm ships at Chantiers de l’Atlantique in France, with options for four more. The first is due in 2029. The second is due in 2032.
This is not a 2027 delivery. It is a 2027 planning story. Bayley told media on Legend of the Seas that marketing usually starts 18 to 24 months before first sailing, which points to sometime in 2027 for the first real go-to-market push. Cruise Trade News published those quotes on Aug. 11, 2026.
Size and reach matter for where you can sail. Royal Caribbean Blog’s May 1, 2026 read of the Group’s SEC 10-Q lists about 4,300 berths, in Quantum Class territory and below Icon and Oasis. Bayley also said Discovery is built for Asia, Alaska, and Europe, and that it will fit the Panama Canal so Alaska-to-Caribbean repositioning shrinks from about 60 days around South America to about two weeks through the canal. Icon and Oasis cannot make that transit.
If you want smaller-ship exotic routes from Royal Caribbean, Discovery is the ordered answer. Just do not expect to sail it in 2027.
4. Icon 5
Meyer Turku cut steel on Icon 5 on Jan. 19, 2026. The yard’s release sets delivery for summer 2028. The name is still blank. The homeport is still blank.
Earlier Icon Class homeports already claim the obvious U.S. slots for the mid-2020s. Hero takes Miami in August 2027. Icon of the Seas is slated for Galveston in August 2027. Star and Utopia hold Port Canaveral. Wonder holds Miami on short Bahamas runs. Symphony shifted to Fort Lauderdale for 2027 after the Galveston plan changed.
Icon 5’s first season is a 2028 story. Any 2027 “prediction” about its name or homeport is an educated guess, not a booking fact.
5. Alaska private destination
Royal Caribbean has not announced a private beach club or Perfect Day-style destination in Alaska. Every current exclusive destination in the Group’s Perfect Day and Royal Beach Club set is a warm-weather product.
What did open is infrastructure. On June 10, 2026, Royal Caribbean Group and the Alaska Railroad marked the Dale R. and Carol Ann Lindsey Alaska Railroad Terminal in Seward. The company release calls it the largest cruise terminal in Alaska, with 41,500 square feet of enclosed space and shore power.
The money and the lease came earlier. An Aug. 2, 2024 Alaska Railroad / Seward Company release put the facility at $137 million and tied the debt to a 30-year pier usage agreement with Royal Caribbean Group as anchor tenant, with preferential berthing on an open dock. Ovation of the Seas used Seward as a 2026 Alaska homeport after early-May calls briefly diverted to Whittier during a construction delay.
A long terminal lease is not a private island. Treat Seward as a stronger turn port until Royal Caribbean publishes something else.
6. How you pay for the next cruise
Royal Caribbean’s current Manage Reservation FAQ lists major cards, Royal ONE Visa, gift cards, Affirm, and Apple Pay for cruise balances, plus scheduled payments before final payment. Onboard accounts still run through SeaPass.
Any forecast about a new wallet, card product, or checkout path in 2027 is a prediction, not a live policy. Pay with the tools Royal Caribbean lists today. Re-check the FAQ when you book 2027 and 2028 sailings.
What you should do
Watch the video for the six graded calls, then verify each one against Cruise Planner and Royal Caribbean’s own releases before you change a booking. Prepay gratuities only if a hike is announced with a lock-in window, and keep Hero, Discovery, and Icon 5 timelines straight so you do not plan a 2027 sailing on a 2028 or 2029 ship.
